I confess I returned this book (kindle) a quarter of the way in. It's one thing for a writer to give background in a book - that doesn't bother me in a well done book, in fact it's often entertaining and enlightening. But when the writer shows the doctor looking up at a house on the way to see a patient, then inserts three or more pages about the doctor's character, childhood, education, then the doctor steps into the house, now there's two or three pages about the doctor's wife, how he raised his children, now he walks down the hall toward the patient's bedroom, reaches for the door knob, and then there's three more pages about how the doctor looked in old age, what his now grown children did at dinner as children etc, etc. etc. EEEEKKK! I just couldnt take it anymore, it was so gimmicky and contrived. This didn't appear to bother a lot of reviewers, but be prepared, it might drive you nuts, too!
